As the Maltese gaming authority announced a few days ago, the gaming operator Evobet no longer has a valid license from Malta with effect from July 16, 2021. The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has withdrawn Evobet’s gaming license. But what are the reasons for this radical measure?
In the recent past, the gaming operator Evobet had already attracted negative attention from the licensing authority several times. Most recently Evobet was suspended by the MGA due to a license violation. Now Evobet has lost the coveted gaming license from Malta.
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) announced in a recent press release that Evobet has violated Maltese law. Furthermore, the gaming provider failed to make payments punctually and in full to the licensing authority. Unfortunately, the official statement from the regulator does not contain detailed information on Evobet’s offenses.
The fact is that Evobet no longer has an EU license from Malta since July 16, 2021. Evobet had, among other things, a sports betting license for the online platforms bet11.com, sports.bet11.com and m.bet11. Evobet was granted the license in 2012.
The licensing authority gives various reasons why a license is withdrawn from a provider. Before a license withdrawal is possible, however, as in the case of Evobet, a suspension must first be issued. For the MGA to be able to revoke the gaming license, the provider must have violated money laundering rules or requirements for player protection, for example.
The late payment of license fees can also lead to the license being withdrawn. The same applies if the provider is insolvent or requested payouts by the user are not processed properly.
Readers can read here on the official website of the Maltese Gambling Authority that the license status of Evobet Limited is currently “CANCELED”:
Evobet no longer has an EU license from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). But in the meantime the company has already applied for and received a new gaming license from the Caribbean state of Curacao. Since Evobet has obviously appeared negative several times, we can no longer recommend this gaming provider for the time being.
However, the fact is that there is currently a clear trend towards Curacao online casinos. For this reason, we have put together all the information that is worth knowing on this topic for our readers.
Despite the fact that the MGA has revoked the gaming operator’s license, the latter is still obliged to pay the outstanding license fees. In addition, the MGA has asked the provider to give users access to their player accounts in order to be able to withdraw their credit.
In the recent past, the Malta Gaming Authority has carried out license withdrawals in several other cases. Here are some examples:
The MGA is known throughout Europe for its strict measures for player protection and money laundering prevention. In the event of rule violations, the licensing authority first imposes fines, suspends the provider and can withdraw the license again in the event of gross breaches of duty. In the current case, the gaming operator Evobet is losing its EU license and consequently has little chance of gaining a permit in the German licensing process.
