Just over a week ago, a multi-billion dollar jackpot was hit in America. This is the main prize in the well-known Powerball lottery. According to media reports, the winner’s ticket was purchased in the US state of California. Now the lucky guy can look forward to a profit of around two billion US dollars.
It was only in September that we reported on an impressive jackpot win after just two minutes of play. However, the player won “only” 204,000 euros here in Velden am Wörthersee, Austria. In the American lottery Powerball, a player from California has now achieved the unbelievable: He won a mega jackpot of 2.04 billion US dollars with the numbers he typed.
Highest jackpot in history since 1992
The Powerball jackpot that has now been cracked is the highest amount ever won in the thirty-year history of the American lottery. The winner won about $2 billion by betting on the numbers 10, 33, 41, 47 and 56. He chose 10 as the additional number. The winning ticket was handed in at the gas station Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, California. This was announced by the lottery company California Lottery.
There’s a catch though, if the winner chooses to cash out the full winnings directly, they’ll only get a little less than half of the original jackpot amount. More precisely, he would then “only” receive $998 million instead of $2.03 billion. Nevertheless, this amount should be enough to lead a carefree life. The alternative for the jackpot winner is to have the winnings distributed as part of an annual partial payment.
Powerball is a popular American lottery that was first held in April 1992. The special thing about this lottery is that the jackpot here is always at least 40 million US dollars. In January 2016, the lottery’s jackpot total hit ten figures for the first time, at approximately $1.5 billion. In Powerball, the player has to pick five numbers out of 69 and one more number out of 26 numbers.
Record profit also in Germany
A few days ago, a player from Berlin cracked an equally impressive jackpot. He managed to win an impressive 120 million euros in the Eurojackpot lottery. This is the first time ever that the maximum jackpot goes to Germany.
In online casinos, players from Germany have had to do without such millions in winnings since the new State Treaty on Gambling (GlüStV) came into force. Since then, there has been a ban on progressive jackpots in virtual slot machines. We last reported in May 2021 that the popular Mega Moolah jackpot of around 20 million euros was hit.
Conclusion
A player from California won over two billion US dollars in the American lottery Powerball. He can now decide whether he would like the winnings to be paid out in one go and in this case only half of the money would be transferred, or whether he would like an annual payment in tranches. Almost at the same time, a tipper from Berlin won an impressive 120 million euros at the Eurojackpot.
