Yggdrasil not only launched a new slot called Dr. Fortuno at the end of April 2019, but also a table game called Dr Fortuno Blackjack. In the following article I would like to describe my experiences when trying out the game. I will also explain the differences with traditional Blackjack.
The new Dr Fortuno Blackjack also uses the new REDUX technology from Yggdrasil, which is already known from Sony Blackjack. It is, therefore, a new Blackjack-Slot with elaborate 3D-design. In contrast to Sony Blackjack, there is a side bet with a progressive Jackpot – the winning potential is therefore significantly higher than in classic Blackjack.
How is Dr Fortuno Blackjack played?
In Dr Fortuno Blackjack you have chosen the same-named slot figure as the Dealer. In addition, the same background music as the Slot was used here. It is located around Dr Fortuno’s study room and sits at his table. The cardholder is a fish that releases the cards. They then float to the respective players. A magical ambience should be created here. Up to 5 players can play at one table.
The normal course of play is classic Blackjack. Played with 6 Decks of 52 cards each. The deck is shuffled at the end of each round, so you cannot count cards on Blackjack Slots.
The aim here is to get 21 eyes, all of which count 10 eyes. The payment cards correspond to the respective values shown and aces count as either 1 or 11, as it is better for the player. It is possible to play the round in the Slot itself or to use the Bet-Behind function for other players. In this case, you only bet on another player’s Hand, but do not make any decisions when playing.
As a player you can split with two identical cards. You then automatically get another card for each Hand and can then make further decisions. When you split ACE, there is only one more card. Otherwise, you can double, then you get an additional card. A natural Blackjack (ace and 10 or picture card) pays 3: 2.
The table limits are 1€ to 500€ if you want to play the Hand yourself. For the bonus bet you can once again bet€ 1 to€ 500.
Special features of the dealer’s playing style
The Dealer must stop at 17 eyes. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Soft 17 (with Ass) or a Hard 17. A Dealer can not split or double, but that should be known. Otherwise, the Dealer will split two cards at the beginning, one face down and the other face down.
If the Dealer has an ace as the face up card, the player is offered insurance. For half of the original bet, the player wins 2:1 if the Dealer really has a Blackjack. If not, the insurance is lost.
If the player has a Blackjack and the Dealer has an ace as a Face Card (face-up card), the player may take an Even Money insurance. He pays half of the previous hand bet. If the Dealer really has a Blackjack, the player gets the normal stake back as a Push and the Even Money bet is paid out 2: 1. If the Dealer has no Blackjack, the Even Money bet is lost.
What is the Dr Fortuno Bonus Bet?
In addition to the actual bet field for the respective Hand, there is a field for the bonus bet. It is activated when the Dealer only has cards of the same type (either, only heart, only diamonds, only spades or only crosses).
If so, an automatic Jackpot play is started. You can see different soap bubbles, with the following prizes:
- Rivet
- 5x
- 10x
- 25x
- 50x

- and the Jackpot
The soap bubbles burst and in the end there is either a cash prize or a rivet left. The Jackpot is the same as the video slot Jackpot. The Jackpot is progressive, but locally limited to one provider. 2.5% of the bonus bet will be added to each current Jackpot. 0.5% of the Jackpot bet will be added to the Pool of the next jackpot. Only one player per round can win a Jackpot. The Software is supposed to ensure this.
The payout percentages at Dr Fortuno Blackjack
The normal Blackjack game has a payout ratio of 99.54%. The house advantage is therefore only 0.46%, which is better than conventional European Blackjack, but still worse than the American Blackjack Version.
The payout ratio for deposits with insurance is theoretical 92.60%. The payout ratio of the bonus bet should be 96.5%.
